Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park Launches Naming Contest for Newly Born Endangered Pygmy Hippo Baby!

Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park is excited to announce the arrival of an endangered baby pygmy hippopotamus. This rare and important birth marks another milestone for the zoo’s ongoing commitment to conservation and the care of threatened species.

Guests can see the little hippo spending her days exploring the waters of the pygmy hippo habitat, learning to navigate the world under the watchful eyes of both her mom and our animal care team.

To celebrate her arrival, Wildlife World is launching a public naming contest. Guests are invited to visit the zoo and cast their vote by scanning the QR code posted directly in front of the pygmy hippo exhibit. There are four name choices, Cadbury, Twixi, Jellybean and Taffy. The winning name will be officially announced once voting closes.

Pygmy hippos are an endangered species found primarily in the forests and swamps of West Africa. Births are uncommon in human care, and because these elusive animals are extremely difficult to study in the wild, much of what we know about their behavior and biology comes from individuals cared for by zoo professionals. This makes the arrival of this calf especially meaningful for conservation awareness and education efforts led by Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park.
