PORT CLINTON, Ohio, September 24, 2025 — For the second time this year, a critically endangered Mountain Bongo has been born at African Safari Wildlife Park.
The new arrival, a female, was born on July 14 to mother Maleficent and father Calvin. The Park's animal care staff report both mom and baby are thriving. This is the Park's seventh Mountain Bongo birth since 2022.
Mountain Bongo are large antelope native to Kenya's mountain forests. Habitat loss and poaching have reduced the wild population to roughly 100 individuals, and the animals are listed as “critically endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
